A) Examination pattern for Semester I to V
  Under the Semester system, introduced by the University of Jammu, the 3 year B.Sc.  /  BCA  Degree  Programme  shall  be spread  over 6  semesters,  with 2 semesters in each year. This will be applicable to students seeking admission to odd semesters (I, III and V) of B. Sc. / BCA Programme during the session.
  2016 – 17 and then with a progressive approach. On completion each semester will have an external examination which is referred to as ‘End Semester Examination’
Eligibility, Pass Percentage and Promotion Criteria under Semester System
i) A student shall be eligible for End Examination provided he / she has attended not less than 75 % of the lectures delivered in each course in theory and in practical classes conducted separately.
ii) The  minimum  marks  required  to  pass  each  paper  in  a  semester examination shall be 36 % of the total marks in each theory paper, practical (wherever applicable) and Internal Assessment separately.
iii) A student will be eligible for promotion from semester I to II and from Semester III to IV and V to VI if he / she has:
         a)  Secured pass marks in Internal Assessment of Semester I / III/V 
         b) Has appeared in at least one paper of Semester I/III / V examination.
iv) Similarly, a student shall be eligible for promotion from Semester II to III, and Semester IV to V provided he / she has passed at least 75 % papers of theory and practical of Semester I / III /V as the case may be.
v) A student will be eligible for promotion from Semester V to VI provided he / she has passed an all subjects / papers of Semester I and III.
Provided that a student who does not fulfill the promotion criteria iii), iv) and v) as above shall be declared fail in the Semester concerned.
However, he / she shall have the option to retain the marks in the papers in which they have secured Pass marks.
vi) A  student  who  has  to  reappear  in  a  paper  /  subject  prescribed  for Semester I to IV shall appear in the subsequent examination to be held as per the dates prescribed by the University of Jammu.
vii) A student who has to reappear in a paper prescribed for Semester V and VI shall appear in the supplementary examination. 
  20 % of the marks allotted to each theory paper and 50% of marks allotted to each practical paper are reserved for Internal Assessment.
 
  Theory: There  shall  be  1  internal  assessment  tests  of  20  marks  in  all  the subjects. 

Practical's: 50% marks in practical's are reserved for internal assessment including 5 marks allotted for attendance as detailed above. In practical classes, assessment of students shall be made on the basis of his/her daily performance on a three point scale for which a student can earn a maximum of 12 marks at the end of the academic session. In addition to this, an internal assessment test carrying eight marks is conducted towards the close of the session, as per the schedule give in the Institutional Calendar.
 
Internal Assessment under semester pattern:
  20 % of the marks allotted to each theory paper and 50% of marks allotted to each practical paper are reserved for Internal Assessment. 
 
  In theory 2 assignments of 7.5 marks each and one test of 5 marks in each paper comprises 20% internal assessment. Similarly one test of 8 marks, daily performance in practical evaluated on a 3 point scale to comprise 12 marks and regularity of student (attendance) carrying 5 marks, makes it 50% for internal assessment in practical.  
Supplementary Examination :
  There shall be supplementary examination for Semester V and VI only.
 
  B - Examination pattern for B. Sc. Part III :  
  For students seeking admission in B. Sc. Part III, the previous pattern of examination shall stay where under annual examination in each course will be conducted by University of Jammu. The weightage of this examination is of 80% of the total marks in theory and 50 % in practical. The remaining 20 % marks in theory and 50 % marks in practical are reserved for Internal Assessment 
 
  Internal Assessment  :  
  Theory: There shall be 2 internal assessment tests of 7.5 marks each in all the subjects except for Mathematics in which the distribution of marks is 11.5 and 11.0. The regularity of the students (attendance) carries maximum of 5 marks in all the subjects other than Mathematics in which the maximum marks allotted for attendance are 7.5.  

Practical's: The 50 % marks in practicals, reserved for internal assessment, are spread over one test of 8 marks, daily performance in practicals evaluated on a 3 point scale to comprise 12 marks and regularity of student (attendance) carrying 5 marks.
 
  The marks for attendance in both theory and practical are awarded on the basis of following scale:

For being eligible to appear in the examination, student is required to have 75% of attendance in each theory paper and 30 sessions’ attendance in the practicals of each science subject. Those falling short of attendance in either or both are not allowed to sit in the examination.
  In respect of BCA stream separate internal assessment rules are in vogue.
