World Wetlands Day Celebrated at G.G.M. Science College, Jammu

Department of Zoology, G.G.M. Science College, Jammu, celebrated World Wetlands Day today in college campus to raise awareness about the value of wetlands for humanity and the planet. World Wetlands Day is celebrated each year on 2nd of Feb. 2017 to mark the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971. World Wetlands Day was celebrated for the first time in 1997 and has grown remarkably since then. On the occasion, Sh. O.P. Sharma Vidyarthi, IFS, Director, Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K, was the resource person. The theme of World Wetlands Day 2017 is “Disaster Risk Reduction”. Sh. Sharma gave an elaborate account of the importance of the day and the extant diversity of important wetlands of J&K. Nodal Principal, Dr. Ajeet Angral, welcomed the resource person and briefed the students about the theme of the interactive session. Dr. Alpana Vohra presented a formal vote of thanks.
