Department Profile

Department of mathematics, GGM science college Jammu, among other departments of the college, forms a constituent component of this heritage institution, which, as of now, has a legacy that dates back, more than a century on the time line of the college commencing from 1907, the year of its establishment. Since then the role of the department has been indispensable in the overall development of the college. Among the first batch of 23 enrolled students for the then called F.A/F.Sc course, all excepting a few of the students opted for mathematics as one of their subjects. With every passing year, the number of students opting for the subject increased exponentially and for the last five years, 2500 students are being taught mathematics by well qualified and experienced faculty members. During the course of departmental journey with the college, Department has been able to build epitomes of success from time to time in the shape of producing young mathematicians who have grown themselves as renowned mathematicians at the national as well as international level .

At Present the Department is offering Mathematics courses as Core courses/ Skill courses / Generic courses/ Discipline Elective courses to students of B.Sc, BCA nd B.Sc Honors. The department has started B.Sc. Honors in Mathematics from the session 2017 onwards.

The departmental faculty members (Regular and Academic Arrangement) are highly qualified to provide students with subject expertise and continuously inspire students with positive thoughts.

The new project on which Department is working is to start P.G in Mathematics and Ph.D in Mathematics so that we train young students as future researchers in Mathematics and allied sciences.
