G.G.M. SCIENCE COLLEGE STUDENTS VISITED GHARANA.
The heritage /club of the G.G.M. Science College, Jammu organized a heritage tour under UGC sponsored heritage project to the heritage site GHARANA WETLAND, R.S. Pura, Jammu. The main purpose of such visit is to provide an opportunity to the students of the college to study the Gharana wetland conservation reserve which every year support the population of 20000-25000 birds of different species, the site is famous for migratory bird landing here from different countries. The team consisting of Ms. Sugeeta Sharma, Ms. Poonam Kundan and Ms. Heena Khan under the supervision of Dr. Rajesh Kumar, explained to the students the significance of the place and various threats like lack of demarcation, encroachment, desilting and anthropogenic pressure which has threatened the historical presence of these birds during a specific period in the area. Students interacted with the local resource persons and was impressed with the historical background of the place. Dr. Ajeet Angral, Principal, G.G.M. Science College, Jammu appreciated the efforts of the team members in providing an opportunity to the students to understand the rich historical background of the place and advised them to take maximum part in such activities being organized by the college.
